Top Five Things to Consider When Choosing a Wedding Photographer
1. The Photographer’s Aesthetic
There are many ways to photograph weddings. Look at the images of different photographers and ask yourself why you like them. While some photographers prefer to take formal, posed photos, others are more open-minded and spontaneous. Some photographers prefer bright colors, while others use muted tones. Some photographers prefer their images to be light and airy, while others prefer dark colors. What style do you choose? This is a crucial point to remember when searching for wedding photographers. While it is great to talk with potential photographers about your preferences and taste, it is not wise to ask them to change their style for your wedding. Instead, it is better to find someone with images that reflect your vision of your wedding. If you love candid photos, ensure that you meet with a photographer who has lots of them in their portfolio.
2. Customer Service
Is the photographer responsive to phone calls and emails? Is he or she willing to spend the time to get to know you and your needs for wedding photos? It is a complicated process and requires attention to detail to ensure that everything runs smoothly. It is essential to have contact information for your photographer via email and telephone so that they can get back to you quickly.
3. Personality
If possible, I recommend that you meet with your photographer in person prior to the wedding. Ask if it is possible to have a Skype conversation to chat virtual face-to-face. It is essential to enjoy the company of this person. This person will be there for you every step of the way, from the moment you get up in the morning to the time you go to bed at night. You won’t feel at ease with your photographer on your wedding day if you don’t feel comfortable with them or her now. A good wedding photographer is a person who has a sense of humor, smiles often, takes care of her fiance and his needs, and enjoys what she does. Your feelings about your photographer will show in your photos. So make sure you choose someone who you can have fun with on your big day.
4. Deliverables
What are you really getting from the photographer? It can be confusing to compare the different packages and add-ons. Prices can vary greatly. It can be challenging to choose what you want. Most couples will need a copy of your digital files, some prints, and an album. My own wedding was a disaster. I ordered too many photographs, and even though I only framed three of them, I still don’t know what to do. I also show my wedding album to anyone who visits my house. It is a good idea to tell the photographer what you want in terms of albums and prints as well as digital files. You should also check the digital files to see what they will look like. Are they color corrected and enhanced? Or will you only receive digital proofs that require additional processing fees?
5. Trust your gut
Your instincts are the best guide. Remember that a wedding is a celebration of the heart.
