Canon EOS 5D Mark III – The First Signs
We took advantage of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III’s arrival in stores and have taken one of them with us by our 24-70mm f2.8L II lens. Our objective was to evaluate the full-format CMOS, 22 Megapixel and first look at their newly renovated autofocus system. Despite this brief cohabitation, we did not miss the chance to test the Nikon D800 full-frame EOS. He also walked the QUESABESDE.COM Office.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is now available. The first full-size SLRs of the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III arrived in the country just 20 days after the Canon. We’ve been talking a lot about technical and aesthetic innovations in the new body canon. Now it is time to concentrate on the results of their tormentor, with particular attention to chapter high sensitivity. Mark III promises to be a leader in this area, at least on paper.
We were able to pass this test, even though the ideal mount for the camera would have been the Canon 24-70mm f2.8L II. We had to use the original zoom light instead, which works well with the new EOS.
The same management, but with new details
Although the dimensions are very similar to the predecessor, the EOS5D Mark III was quickly successful in his hands. We felt it was best to add professional details and solid trim. These details confirm the initial impressions we made when we played with a preproduction model a few weeks ago.
The display can grow to cover 100% of the area and also attains brightness levels. The Canon model actually looks slightly different after you place your eye in the Nikon D800 and SLR eyepieces.
The rear screen is worth mentioning. It grows in size (3.2 inches) resolution and can also be used to revise the catch. This monitor deserves to be in the top category. It makes images look better than they actually are. Be aware of the disappointment that can occur when you try to play photos on your computer screen.
The dial, which can be used to access the quick menu or as a classic rear Canon, is a huge success. It is also interesting to note that the tiny button “ISO”, which can be pressed to alter the value, is not easily distinguished by the touch.
Is everything perfect? It is not. The power button on your right tends to be under the dial and not above it. The focus detection mode management (which has its own menu) isn’t very flexible. Camera menus are complex and require a long configuration session.
Already squeamish? The viewfinder’s message level is too intrusive, and most messages disappear before the photo.
Faster
A moderate increase in the number of pixels results in a noticeable improvement in speed camera shooting. This may seem like a small thing, but it strengthens the polyvalent DNA EOS5D. This is a great incentive for professionals.
The maximum speed is six frames per second. This can significantly impact the use-cards we have seen depending on the duration of the cadence. High-end CompactFlash (SanDisk Extreme Pro) shot in JPEG or RAW. The result was an unlimited number remained, approximately 20 shots per second, and then the camera dropped sharply but didn’t stop. Combining both formats reduces this number to only a dozen. However, the camera fails to block.
With a class SD Card 10, digits suffer. After 60 shots, JPEG files can be shot at high speed. The same thing happens in RAW. Both formats arrive in approximately two weeks. Six consecutive images can simultaneously record both formats.
The EOS 5D Mark III offers different recovery rates and silent shooting modes (single or continuous) that significantly reduce the sound of the shutter and mirror.
Autofocus is another key component of this renewal. The new system with 61 points is very efficient and agile. It is also very useful in low light scenes where there is a problem. Both bodies show very similar performance.
Although there has not been time to check the operation and effectiveness of the monitoring strategy (another strength of the EOS-5D Mark III and his brother the EOS-1DX X), initial impressions are positive. This means that the EOS 5D Mark III system of focus, which is the crucial goal of crop SLR, appears to be in good shape has nothing to do with it.
22 million points
Many expected great progress in the resolution of this full-format SLR. However, Canon surprised many by settling for a 22 megapixel CMO only. This is a smaller number than the 21 million points of the previous generation or D800-36. It allows you to take out the lens and verify its behaviour.
